2022 Men’s Portugal Tour

The Men’s USA Portugal Tour started on Sept 7 and concluded on Sept 16. Below you will find the cumulative stats along with highlights, box scores and brief summaries. Game 8: v CD Povoa

The final game of the tour for the Americans was probably their best overall performance against their hosts CD Povoa. The only LPB game of the schedule was saved for last and after a 16 point loss to Galitos the night before, the Americans led 77-71 with 4 minutes left in the game. However, they could not finish before a monster performance from Webster Simeus who had 25 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Kevin Holston reached 21 points, while Chris Williams and Zach McIntire each reached double figures with 14 and 12 points respectively.

With the tour conclusion, Chris Williams and Zach McIntire lead the team in scoring at 16.3 per game. Williams led in rebounding per game at 7.3. Kevin Holston led in assists with 2.8 per game and steals at 2.8. Webster Simeus led in blocks at 1.1 and McIntire led the team in Player Efficiency Rating at a total average score of 18.3.

Game 7: v Galitos Aveiro

The American team led by 8 at halftime, but Galitos figured it out in the 2nd half to runaway with a 16 point victory 80-64. Chaminade Silversword byproduct Zach McIntire was the key force for the Americans finishing with 21 points and 8 rebounds. The only other American team member with double figures was Malik Spellman who finished with 11 points and 4 steals. Chris Williams had 9 points and 8 rebounds while Alikhan Tulebayev had 8 points and 4 rebounds. The Americans finish their tour of Portugal this afternoon against CD Povoa.

Game 6: v Sampaense

The American team traveled to Sampaense for their 5th game of the week against Portuguese teams, their 4th in Proliga play coming away with a 88-76 victory. Webster Simeus lead the way for the Americans with his first double double of the tour recording 16 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Zach McIntire continued his consistent play leading the team in scoring at 18, while Chris Williams and Kevin Holston each reached double digits with 15 and 13 points respectively. Guards Aaron Henderson and Malik Spellman tied for the team lead in assists with 5 each. Luka Sikharulidze added 8 points, Kollin Mitchell had 6 points and 6 rebounds before leaving with an injury, and Alikhan Tulebayev had 5 rebounds and 2 steals in the win. The Americans move on to their 5th and final Proliga game tonight in Aveiro against Galitos, before facing off against the tour hosts CD Povoa tomorrow afternoon.

Game 5: vs Academica

The 5th game of the 2022 Men’s American Portugal Tour continued in Coimbra for a match up with Academica where the Americans took a 84-61 win. Kevin Holston lead all scorers with 21 points shooting a blistering 6-11 from 3. Chaminade’s Zach McIntire continued his consistent play with a 16 point – 10 rebound double double. Kollin Mitchell and Malik Spellman each scored 12 points and Webster Simeus finished with 10 to round out the 5 Americans in double figures. Aaron Henderson lead the team in assists with 6, while Europeans Luka Sikharulidze and Alikhan Tulebayev each had 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds. American team member Christopher Williams switched sides for a trial run with Academica where he scored 20 points on 10-12 FG in addition to his 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

Game 4: vs Illiabum (2nd Division)

The American team had their 2nd game against the Proliga Division against Illiabum, but this time they could not come out ahead. After leading by 2 points at halftime, transition offense from Illiabum was to much as they took the victory 72-57.  Zach McIntire and Christopher Williams lead the Americans in scoring with 13 points a piece. Kevin Holston added 8 points, and Webster Simeus had a game high 8 rebounds to go with 6 points. The Americans return to action after an off day Monday night at Academica.

Game 3: vs Vasco da Gama (2nd Division)

The 2nd game of the USA Men’s Tour was against Vasco da Gama in the heart of Porto, Portugal. JaJa Davis had a hot start for Vasco but the Americans put up 36 points in the 2nd quarter to take the lead for good for a final score of 92-77. Christopher Williams led all scorers with 23 points while Zach McIntire (18), Kevin Holston (13), and Malik Spellman (10) all reached double figures for the Americans. Kollin Mitchell led all rebounders with 9 to go with 9 points and 4 steals, while Webster Simeus had an around game with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 1 big block. Alikhan Tulebayev (6) and Aaron Henderson (5) rounded out the scoring numbers. Davis led all Vasco scorers with 17 while Elias Cave finished with 13 points and 4 rebounds in the loss.

Game 2: v Guifoes (Only 3rd Division Team)

The Men’s Tour opened their first game against a Portuguese opponent with Guifoes, the only 3rd division game the Americans will play. The game was well in control by the Americans as Guifoes was missing a few key players. Kevin Holston led all scorers with 22 points to go along with 5 reb, 5 ast, and 2 steals. 4 other American players reached double figures with Zach McIntire (15 pts, 4 stl), Chris Williams (15 pts, 2 stl), Malik Spellman (11 pts, 4 reb), and Webster Simeus (10 pts, 5 reb). Georgian Passport Holder Luka Sikharulidze had 8 points, Kazakhstan Passport Holder Alikhan Tulebayev had 5 points and 4 assists, while American Kollin Mitchell had another all around performance with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Men move on to play Vasco de Gama tonight at 9:30 pm

Game 1: Intrasquad Scrimmage

The first day of all the tours (if possible) is the intrasquad scrimmage. For the 2nd year in a row Chris Williams made the game winning basket in the final seconds of the Portugal Scrimmage. Williams finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds as the white team took a one point victory. Francis Marion’s Kevin Holston added 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals to help power the white team. PG Aaron Henderson finished 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals while Luka Sikharulidze added 2 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Malik Spellman led the black team with 19 points, while Alikhan Tulebayev was an efficient 7-12 from the field for 15 points and 6 assists. Livingstone’s Kollin Mitchell led all players with 13 rebounds and Zach McIntire filled the stat sheet with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
