SOn March 28th, 2015, WCL President Dustin Simcox and International Player Recruitment Director Allen Mkrtychyan hosted a WCL Combine Clinic in Moscow, Russia. The clinic featured young international players looking to build their dream of playing basketball at the professional level. Mkrtychyan, originally from Moscow via Turkmenistan returned home to give back to the community that raised him. “It was extremely empowering to see these young kids in the same position I was in growing up. I had the opportunity to come to the United States and fulfill my basketball dreams. Hopefully, we are putting these kids on the right direction.”
Simcox, President and Certified Agent for Whitecox & Lyons saw the opportunity as a unique way to help kids, build international connections, and provide a sense of knowledge on the work ethic required to reach the professional ranks. “The game of basketball is such a worldwide phenomenon that can connect people from different countries, cultures, and languages into one common understanding,” Simcox added. “I was just talking to these kids about their favorite players in the NBA . The diversity and knowledge that they had was remarkable. Kevin Garnett, James Harden, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, such a wide range of growth shows the depth of the basketball community”. The clinic featured each player going through a typical WCL Combine including shooting, ballhandling, athleticism tests, game simulations, and skill enhancement.
